Unionspace Coworking–Bangkok

The Transformation

Unionspace is a multi-functional space in Ekkamai, a sought-after area of Bangkok. The coworking space holds events and gives people daily access to a main room and outdoor space.

The challenge was to make a simple open-plan room feel welcoming while being conducive to working. I added a little colour to the coffee station area with a green wall and mixed an industrial style with touches of bohemian elements.

Rustic antique-inspired rugs, large bamboo lampshades, chesterfield sofas and wooden coffee table sets transformed the space from an overcrowded room which felt more like a classroom, into a cosy coworking space.

By swapping the large, imposing tables for smaller ones and creating designated working areas for pairs or individuals, the space became more functional, allowing for more people to work productively in their own area while still being able to collaborate.

The result was that the coworking space went from mostly empty each day to almost full at periods throughout the day.

After

The space went from people hardly using it to being busy every day.  I redecorated by bringing out the industrial features and complimenting them with bohemian touches. I created smaller seating areas so individuals and pairs could sit and work or relax instead od the large classroom like tables the space was consumed by before.

Before

The coworking space was very busy, with large pieces of furniture everything and bright mismatched chairs. People were not sitting together or interacting and a single person would sit on a large table, wasting a lot of space.
